Neem pest control is an alternative to harsh chemicals that are sprayed on crops and plants. Although you cannot control each and every pest with neem yet the results are quiet marvellous like most of the mealy bugs, mites and scales can be controlled by neem.
Extract from
neem bark is supposed to have antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer and antifungal properties. Also the neem oil that is extracted from the
neem seeds is used as insect repellent, insecticide, fungicide and miticide. Also neem oil as neem pest control is used as antifeedant that alters the feeding characteristic of insects. Some of the insects will die after eating the plant treated with neem oil. Owing to these neem is used as
bio-control agent as well.
Neem also biodegrades easily after coming in contact with sunlight. But to use neem in pest control you will have to take care certain things like
- The potency of pure neem is retained if kept at 40 degree F.
- Add water and small amount of soap before using the mixture.
- Always mix the required amount.
- Mix 1 oz in 1 gallon of water.
Vollimper [1987] confirmed this in respect of kernel extract by which fecundity of Plutella Xyllostella adults of untreated larvae. Care should, however be taken to use neem preparations with other insecticides alternately to restrict the possibilities of resistance in major and poly phagus pests.
