Neem has been considered as one of the healers of many of the health ailments including hair fall treatment, eye related problems, skin irritations. Neem leaf extracts is believed to be a common supplement for various drugs available in stores. Nevertheless, at times it may lead to certain side-effects. So you should be aware of the side-effects that may result from the use of the Neem leaf before using it for treatment. Here are some side-effects related to the use of Neem leaf:

Oral Care

It may cause death of infants

In children use of Neem oil is considered to result in Reye’s syndrome. The Neem extract is given to the infants orally. Many cases of infants death has been reported after consumption of even a small dose, 5mL or less. Till now no death of adults has been reported so far, so if you are giving it to an adult there is nothing to worry. But In case you are administering it to some infant, consult a doctor before consumption.

Irritation in Stomach

Many cases of stomach infections and ailments have been reported after the consumption of Neem leaf and neem products, which include indigestion, diarrhoea. Therefore it is advised that those suffering from stomach related problems and ailments should avoid the use of Neem.

Adverse Effect on Kidney and Liver

Those who are suffering from ailments related to Liver or Kidney should avoid use of Neem. Those who have a long history of liver or kidney diseases should distant themselves from Neem based products and its use in any form and for any purpose. Neem consists of ingredients which may be toxic for those with diseases related to these organs, no matter in what dose it is being consumed.

It may result in increased level of Fatigue

If you are suffering from an enhanced level in fatigue then you should avoid the use of neem leaf products. According to many Ayurvedic practitioners use of neem increases the severity of fatigue.

Results in Complications during Pregnancy

If you are expecting your baby or are already pregnant, do not consume neem leaf products in any form. Using it as an alternative medication can create complications during pregnancy. Doctors say that it can lead to blood toxicity.

Diabetes

It has been found that using Neem can lower your blood sugar level. If you are suffering from diabetes you are advised to be careful as it may cause the level of your blood sugar to too low. So do periodic monitoring of your blood sugar level so as to adjust the dose of medication for diabetes.

Neem is generally safe to use for most of the cases in adults when consumed orally for up to ten weeks or used inside mouth for six months or is used on skin for up to two weeks. But if it is being taken in large doses and for relatively larger period of time it may prove to be fatal. It may harm some parts of your body.
